Hello All, I am thinking of getting a new monitor soon. I have a 19” atm running 1280 1024.
System Spec,
Mobo ep45-ud3p
Cpu E8500
Ram Corsair DDR2 PC6400
Psu Corsair HT620
Gpu evga 260 Note not the 216 core
Hdd WD 640 black
Dvd 22x Samsung
OS vista 64 bit
I would love a 24” but if you guys think I am better off with a 22” with that card then I guess its 22”
I would like to run games at max settings /codwaw/bf1942/spore/
I see no reason why your rig can`t drive a full 1920x1200 (or 1080) display, mine can with its 512Mb HD4870 and slower E6600.
When making the decision bear in mind the monitor is the part we change the least, so this will most likely be around for some years.
Look for High Definition connectors and compliance, you might not use them now, but next year?
Try to actually see the ones you have in mind in use, we all see differently and what is good for one is n`t good for all.
Echoing what coozie7 is saying about upgrading. How often will you upgrade the hardware ? if you plan the whole thing to last maybe a couple of years, monitor GPU etc then i would stay with a 22"
It will run more games now at max settings and will last at higher details longer for newer games as they come out.
If you have the funds to replace the GPU at about once a year then get the 24" screen. Your card as is if its not a 1gb card wont run all games at Max settings now and will only struggle with the release of newer games.
Its a bit of a ballancing act which you need to decide for your self. Its up to individual preferance.
Personally i would get the 24", but then im quite happy running games at lower settings if need be.
Thanks for the replies, so what I am getting is atm my system with a 24” monitor will be fine now for most games at max settings, in a year or so I might need to upgrade the GPU to handle newer games? If so that’s fine I can do 200 a year for a new GPU mid range card for new titles.
Get a 22" or 24" (26" - 28" shares the same resolution as well).
Going with 1680 x 1050 will allow you to get more FPS than 1920 x 1200 if you were to set the same graphics quality at both resolutions. The 1920 x 1200 will give you a large viewing area, but sticking with a 1680 x 1050 monitor will allow you to keep the card longer.
It's all relative, I game on a 26" monitor @ 1920 x 1200 with my good ol' X1900XT. It showing it's age after almost 3 years so I guess it's about time I upgrade it.

Thanks for the replies all. I think I will go for a 24 “and if need be in the next year replace GPU if needed. I don’t need max rez just something that looks good and gets 30-40 fps I guess min fps to run smooth.
