Do you know what "FTA" (Free To Air) really means VS "Dish/Direct
TV"?

DISH/Direct TV offers MANY channels that you get to view for an
exuberant cost.
Meaning also, that you DO have to pay for it one way or another, via
monthly bills , yearly contracts, or whatever.

NOTHING is "free!"

"FTA" (Free to air" ) means just that!
The "programs" and the signals that CERTAIN people/companies allow
to be broadcasted for all to see, once YOU have the larger dishes
and other reception devices to receive and aquire those signals.

That costs =you= EXTRA MONEY, because those "FTA's" are all over
the place, and YOU have to have the equipment to aim your dish to
those "many birds" that offer those "free signals."

And YOU can not get FTA's with Dish or DTV!

Nor can a person with just "any old receiver" get the
scrambled/encoded signals that DISH/DTV offers legally!

And I PRIDE myself by turning in "crimminals" that attempt to bust
the system.

FTA costs more to set up. The equipment isn't all that much more expensive, but
since no-one gets to dip their hand in your wallet month after month, they
aren't going to subsidize your installation.

FTA provides for channel schedules, but very few channels provide that
information because they don't get to dip their hand in your wallet month after
month.

If you're interested in foriegn language broadcasts, or religious broadcasts,
you may be able to get away with a small fixed dish pointing at the appropriate
sattelite(s). If you have the space, and the proper view of the sky, you can
expand your viewing to include most of the network feeds, and a nyriad of
unscrambled channels.

The most comprehensive FTA setup includes two recievers, one for FTA proper
(digital), and one for analog. With an analog receiver and a suitable C-band
dish, you can subscribe to any and all of your favorite "premium" channels. For
instance, we were watching Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" FTA on a canadian
sattelite up until they scrambled it a few weeks ago. All we had to do was call
a toll free number and subscribe to Comedy Central for $9.99 *A YEAR*. Didn't
miss a single episode.
