Basically, you don't.

Today's laptops come with wireless with the antenna usually built into the top lid.

You might be able to find a PCMCIA card or USB adapter with a standard-fit removable stick antenna and replace that with a directional (hi-gain) unit).

I have no idea which ones work and which wildly overclaim. You'll find lots on e-bay.

Bear in mind that they trade off multi-directionality against signal strength, so alignment becomes critical and I suspect physical obstructions will be more of an issue than with a normal setup.
