So i was wondering if i can buy 6 gb of 3-channel ddr3 ram and stick em on an am3 mobo putting the ram on 3 slots in 2 different channels. Will it work fine?

yes (since it would be in dual channel)

or you could buy 2 sets of 4GB(2x2GB) DDR3 for 8GB in dual channel

it will work, but it will only run in single channel. Any particular reason you want 6 GB instead of 4 or 8?

So all 3 will work in single channel, or will i get a double channel and a single channel

Well the prices seem to be so similar that i figured might as well get 2 extra gb of ram :P

If you have 4 memory slots you can buy a pair of 2 GB sticks and a pair of 1 GB sticks and they should work fine - giving you 6 GB of memory operation in dual channel mode.

would that perform better than 3x 2gb?
