Can my PSU damange my GPU?

Hey guys.. newb question here. Long story short.

I purchased brand new components from CPU, MB, GPU, PSU, RAM... the works.

Only the Case and GPU have arrived. The rest of the guts is not scheduled to get here until Monday.


If I connect my 7970 to my current computer that runs a 650W PSU, can this possibly cause damage to any components including the GPU if its not enough power?

Yes, but I am not sure that it needs much more power than that. I think the requirement is ~400w for that card. If the rest of your system is less than the difference (which is likely) then you are gtg.

be shure htat you have enough amp. on the 12 volts hte card itself ask for a 500 watts psu with a 6 and 8 pins connector

An Antec 650w should hold up really well with a single hd7970. Just check the 12v rails amps. Although, it should run. Antec is really good.

Your Antec link doesn't link to any specific model.

For a system using a single Radeon HD 7970 graphics card AMD specifies a minimum of a 500 Watt or greater power supply. The power supply should also have a combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 36 Amps or greater and have at least one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Looking at Antec's 650W models they all meet the combined +12 Volt continuous current rating and PCI Express supplementary power connector requirements.
