A string of Problems...

Hey, I've just upgraded my Motherboard, RAM, CPU and PSU. When I boot up my PC it shows BIOS screen and shows the RAM configuration screen and shows the SATA hard drives and waits for me to go to setup or continue. So I press continue, then it shows the hard drive name and size, then it shows the PCI device listing. Then goes on to the XP screen and then the login screen. It this point I am unable to press anything in the keyboard or move the cursor. This is the first problem.

So I restart my PC. Then when my PC starts again it doesnt show anything, just the POST script on the motherboard, C1 which means:

Detect memory-Auto-detection of DRAM size, type and ECC-Auto-detection of L2 cache (socket 7 or below)

And apparently the solution is to "Update flash BIOS" and so I tried following the direction given on Abit's website, put the BIOS files onto a Floppy Drive, put the Floppy into an external FDD, cleared the CMOS and told the BIOS to use the external Floppy drive as the main boot device. It ignored that and went to the BIOS hard drive screen then to the PCI devices Screen and started to beep. High then low like a siren non stop then it shows me the login screen and I cannot use my Keyboard and mouse.... That is the second problem.

I think I may have to use an internal FDD rather than an External one but I still don't know which files to put on the Floppy, If you could read what they want me to d and make some sense out of it that would be great. (See BIOS update Method at Bottom)

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance, also thanks for reading, it must have been very tiring.

Its not a BIOS problem .

Your old hard drive doesnt have drivers for the new motherboard and windows is confused .

Fix it by
changing the boot order to cd/dvd drive first

then follow these instructions for a repair install . Theres some risk to your data , so I hope you have back ups . having said that Ive done this many times and never had a problem . Just dont blame me if your repair goes wrong .
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

A repair install will refresh all the windows files and remove all the drivers . After its finished then run the mobo driver disc . and your system will run well

Once its running you need to fix a problem microsoft created so windows will update . Heres the fix
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555615

once all thats done then install gfx card drivers etc .

Its tedious but in the end you will have a brand new windows installation and hopefully your data is all fine too

Thank you sooo much for the help, I'm going to get rid of my old IDE HDD and get a SATA Hard drive, so would I still need to do this? Also do I still need some files on the old HDD (system files) or can I start fresh all the information on the old hard drive is useless to me now so I think I'm going to start with a clean slate. So would I need to go through the full repair XP thing on the website you gave or could I just insert the CD and tell the BIOS to boot from that and just install it that way?

Again thanks a ton for the help.

Stefan the problem you are having is because windows has drivers installed for the old motherboard . They cant work with the totally different new motherboard so windows cant start .

The simplest thing is to partition and format the drive and reinstall windows , BUT YOU LOSE ALL DATA ON THE DRIVE.

If you want to save your files then follow the instructions above , if theyre safe somewhere else then just format then partition and format .

The repair install isnt a big deal . it takes the same amount of time as installing windows , and you have to fix the update problem which literally takes a couple of minutes once you know how

Yeah I don't want my old IDE hard drive anyway its too slow so I figure, the information is out of date and useless to me and so I'm better of getting a new SATA HDD, partitioning it and re-installing windows . Again thanks for the help
