Gaming on Hyper-V'ed XP/Vista Tags: New Build Gaming Windows XP Systems Last response: March 21, 2009 6:33 PM in Systems Share Wolfshadw a b 4 Gaming March 21, 2009 3:17:04 PM So I'm looking at building a new system for development. Intel Core2Quad - Q8200 SuperMicro motherboard 8 Gig of RAM Windows Server 2008 w/ Hyper-V Guest OS would include Windows XP Professional and Vista The main purpose of this system would be for development of Visual Basic Database Applications and Active Server Pages. However, I do some gaming (looking forward to Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3). So does anyone have any experience with gaming on a Hyper-V'ed system? How much of an impact am I looking at with SQL Server 2005 and IIS running in the background (if any)? Your comments would be appreciated. -Wolf sends More about : gaming hyper vista GhislainG a b 4 Gaming March 21, 2009 6:33:01 PM If you're gaming from Windows Server 2008, you'll be fine unless you launch an application that makes SQL Server and IIS very busy. Idle VMs require very low CPU power. I run a few VMs with Oracle databases and CPU utilization on a Q6600 is 2-5%. Can't find your answer ? Ask !
