So I'm looking at building a new system for development.

Intel Core2Quad - Q8200
SuperMicro motherboard
8 Gig of RAM
Windows Server 2008 w/ Hyper-V

Guest OS would include Windows XP Professional and Vista

The main purpose of this system would be for development of Visual Basic Database Applications and Active Server Pages. However, I do some gaming (looking forward to Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3).

So does anyone have any experience with gaming on a Hyper-V'ed system? How much of an impact am I looking at with SQL Server 2005 and IIS running in the background (if any)?

Your comments would be appreciated.

If you're gaming from Windows Server 2008, you'll be fine unless you launch an application that makes SQL Server and IIS very busy. Idle VMs require very low CPU power. I run a few VMs with Oracle databases and CPU utilization on a Q6600 is 2-5%.
