Hy everybody,

I am wanting to build a system for doind CAD and CAE simulations, using Catia, Ansys, Fluent and some Nastran/Abaqus calculation.

I am thinking at a build like that:
Intel C2Q 9550 - 2.83ghz
Gigabyte EP45-DS3L or a EP45-UD3L
4 gigs of ram OCZ 800mhz, and then another 4 gigs
a nvidia 9800gt or ati 4850 video card
two 500Gb hard drives
two optical drives
Win X64 or vista 64bits - operating system

I am concerning about the power suply:
to use one of 700W with passive PFC or a 550W with active PFC?

Also, i want to know wich one of the motherboards is better DS3L or UD3L.

Either PSU is more than enough give your videocard. I don't think that system will draw more than 250W under maxload. GPU and CPU take about 100W each.

Active is normal a sign of a higher quality PSU though.

UD3L for the mobo.

I would also change the HDD to WD 640GB, faster than 500.
