Hey all you people.

I'm about to get a case, Lord willing. Newegg has a free shipping special ending 5/24/09 [today].

I'm looking at the Raidmax Smilodon [$70 and $15 MIR] and the Raidmax Tornado [$45]

I have a Gigabyte P45-UD3P in the mail [atx].

Any help on what to go with and/or if there's a non-raidmax version of either of these that is around the same price that would be better? I see a lot about coolermasters, but don't like what I see. Not really drawn to the price per fanness and looks [although have some pretty inexpensive cases with decent everything]. I read they're made for lots of modding, but i wouldn't know where to start about completely changing it. Onward.

For the cpu question, should I get an E8200 for $110 [total cost] or an E8500 for $160 [total]? I was thinking the E8200, because . . . it's only 110 dollars, but at 160 . . . . hehe.

How much overclocking potential does the 8500 have over the 8200 [I ask not with plans of record setting. . just for lasting value]?

I plan on playing Supreme Commander. . . .Crysis looks so cool, I might get that eventually, but haven't yet.

Price and performance, what do you think?

Sidebar, I just got a Big Typhoon for $20 and free shipping off Thermaltake's refurb store online.

and. .

[Cross-posting - ignore if easily angered] I have another post here in motherboards if you'll check that out as well. It's about bent pins.

Thanks in advance.

E8200 is a good processor if you'll be satisfied with 3.8Ghz. E8500 is if you want 4Ghz on air and 4.5Ghz on water.

What about with the Big Typhoon?

I'm a water guy but it looks pretty good.

I'm getting a decent cooler and can leave the case open - do you think the $45 case would take me a year at least? And with the processor - I don't plan on upgrading for a while - 32nm processors are coming this winter.

All in all, what's the final word?

I think you'll be fine. The new C2D's run very cool. Have you decided on the 8200 or 8500 yet?

I might not have enough money for the 8500. Newegg has a special for ten off a 20 dollar - plus free shipping. Haha that'd be sawEET. Do all cases on newegg work with all the new parts? Does it matter at all what case is gotten?

Have you looked at the antec 300 yet?

Reply to ragsters

What would you do? Go 8200 for 110 or 8500 for 160?

I pulled up the antec 300 - I mean, it's 60 compared to 10 . . deneros. Haha I'm almost set on getting the cheap case. How do I know if it's compatible [what's the c2ds and . . there's another one]?

I ended up buying a pentium d 920 [2.8GHz, dual-core, 64-bit] for $40.

If I overclock the shite out of it, is it going to perform as well as cores of the core 2 duo platform? How does the lower bus speed affect besides "giving more overclocking room"?

Pentium D is not based on the Core 2 Architecture and is about half the speed of any C2D. Old Pentium D's are worth nada these days
