I have a G skill 64 gig SSD thats rather old consider the fact I bought it when they first came out. But I was wondering if anyone had any idea of what the normal

read/write speed for it should be, and what programs I should use to test it? I would greatly appreciate it because I think the damn thing is slowing down my entire

system... Also an explanation of how to read the data from these programs would be appreciated thanks :D/ just post other threads

First, for benchmark. (4K random writes are not much better than a HDD)

Software, I generally use Crystal diskmark (freebe, just google it)

Looks like that was made in the 2008, possibly early 2009 timeframe. I'm guessing that it is not trim enabled (Need to verify) - IF it is NOT, then that would explain the slowdown. Unless Gskill put out a program simular to Intel's Toolbox which you would need to run periodically.

^ If those are accurate, then that SSD does no better than a Velociraptor esp. in 4K read/write. I'm guessing this is a old JMicron based drive....

IIRC, this SSD may actually be comparable to a Samsung F3 in 4K read/write.

edit: Yup. The random 4K write is about the same as a F3: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/storage/2009/10/06/samsung-spinpoint-f3-1tb-review/7

Also, like RC said, is there TRIM support on that drive?
