Hi! An old timer here (in age).

Building a new i7 920 air cooled, modest OC (3.3 to 3.4), Asus Deluxe V2, 6 GB of ram, 24 inch monitor and looking forward to playing: 1) Far Cry 2 and, 2) Crysis Warhead.

My question is: What is the better graphic card set-up to maximise those games?

1 295gtx or 2 260 (216) in SLI?

This would tend to favor 2 260: http://techreport.com/articles.x/16681/12

Also looking at 2 275 or 2 285 makes it, to me, a waste of money.

What about heat for 1 vs 2 cards?

What say you?

You should get pretty much the same result with one 295 or 2 260. I tend to not like dual gpu cards, but that is a personal prefrence. I will buy 2 cards over one card with 2 gpu. 275 will probably perform better than a single 295, but I am not sure how much. A different option would be 2 4890's. If the moon is aligned right with mars you can get performance of 2 285's for much cheaper with crossfired oced 4890's.

Why would a 2x275 perform better than a single 295?

I would rather stay with the GTX 200.

After re-checking the prices, I see that I could go with 2 275 for no more than the cost of 1 295.

The 275s clocks are higher than the single 295 core/mem/shaders. I guess nVidia saw too many problems with the same clocks

"What say you?" Have you been watching LOTR again?
I do n`t like, and never will like, multi-card setups but I like X2 cards even less so I`d go for twin GTX275s`.
You`re right about the 285s`, too expensive and not enough power.

Not this again. They are not better cards all around. they are better price/performance.

I'm pretty well set on my choice.

Unless the reviews are terribly wrong. I shall be going with 2 275.

Thank you all for your input.
