DG45ID costs like $14 more than DQ35MP from my local supplier, but I think DG45ID is a home entertainment mobo. So, should I shell out $14 more for the DG45ID or the DQ35MP mobo is sufficient enough for my gaming needs?
The G45 is clearly the better performing chipset. Including the onboards graphics which is a big (giant) leap forward from the poor perfroming onboard graphics of the G35 chipset. G45 is especially effective with the 45nm processors like the Q8400. G35 would likely need a BIOS update to run the Q8400 although I am not familiar with the Intel MBs.

CPU performance is almost entirely dictated by your Q8400 processor, not the chipset. For overclocking, the 45 chipset is better than the 35, but intel boards are not so easy to overclock, particularly with integrated graphics.
I hope you are not planning on using the integrated graphics for gaming. Your gaming performance is almost entirely dependent on the vga capability, and integrated graphics is poor for gaming.
Yeah, those Intel workstation boards are the pits for OCing. BIOS options are virtually non existent on some. FWIW, the G45 has a far superior onboard graphics solution than the G35. Also, as mentioned, the G45 chipset likely supports the Q8400 without the BIOS update needed by the G35. Suggest the P45 chipset for the Q8400 and stay away from Intel workstation boards like those listed.
