External hdd inconsistency

Hello,
I play games off my Samsung external 620Gig hdd. It's been working for the last month fine however now the games do not connect due to the speed of the HDD being slower. Is there a way to test the consistency of quicken up my hardive?

Using an external HDD connected to a PC for running games is never going to be the best solution. How is the drive connected ? is it USB ??

There is little you can do to improve performance besides defragging and disk clean up. If you are connected via USB make sure the drive is connected to a USB 2 or 3 port where applicable.
