Hello! I just want to ask for your opinion on what could be a good gaming card for an AMD Athlon X2 6000+ with 4GB of RAM. I'm currently using an Nvidia 9600GT 512 MB. I play FPS games and C&C Series mostly. I'm planning on upgrading so I'm asking you guys what videocard I should get. Hopefully it wouldnt make my processor a bottleneck. :) Thanks.

well i used to have the same cpu as u6000+ and i would have to say it was good but when it come to a really high quallty graphics card that cpu just don't cut it any more i used to run a 8800gt+amd-6000+
now im phemon II tri core 720 (3.8gig) with 4890 and im so pleased with this card

i rly dont think if u upgrading ur gpu will make a big dif i mean u could go a 9800gtx but really prob wont be a huge increase
id prob sugest get
new cpu then get a really good graphics card

That is the 6000+ X2 Dual Core 3.1Ghz CPU right? If it is then get a 9800GT, maybe do some overclocking perhaps? It'll be ok in your system. What res. do you play at?

I did pretty well with a 4600+ and an 8800GT. Sure, it bottlenecked a little at 1680X1050, but AA is nice.

I also have a pc with a 6000+ X2 in it, and I've been thinking of buying a new gpu as well. My choice would be a 4830 but I'm not sure I'd bother upgrading to a 4830 over a 9600gt.

Are you gaming? Because if you are lol that 4830 is not a gaming card, i'm pretty sure that a 9600GT can beat it get somthing like a 4850 or a 9800GT

Reply to Axeon

Umm what, a 4830 is better than a 9600gt and a 9800gt.

Sorry i've just looked at benchmarks and reviews at other sites and you are correct lol. I've always thought that a 4830 was a very slow card? BUt its faster than a 9800GT?!? Sweet!

Reply to Axeon

Yep it's just a slightly cut down 4850 and generally performs about 10% slower than it. On the other hand, it overclocks pretty well.

your definitely correct lol, see a roundup or cards here

I recently upgraded to a Ati 4870 1Gb from a 8800 GTS 640 card. I game at 1920 x 1200 though. Had my X2 6000 for 2 years now and about to move to a Phenom 2 955 at 3.2 next week. Will OC it as far as I can and will cost alot less than a i7 920 setup.

My 6000+ x2 is a great little chip. I actually have it running stable overclocked to 3.375ghz on the stock cooler lol. It's an old pc and has an x1950 pro graphics card in it too.

I just cant decide whether or not to upgrade the whole thing or just 'patch' it by getting a 4830 to last me another year.

I have the same CPU as you and upgraded my GPU from a OC 9600GT to a stock 9800GT and guess what...I ran Fraps tests in Crysis and LOTRO and my FPS stayed exactly the same. I play at 1440x900 with 4AA. I suggest the 4850 if you really want to see results to FPS, the 9800GT and 4830 are great cards but not huge improvements over the 9600GT ( a great card in itself)

Thanks for the reply guys. I guess i'll go ATI again on my next video upgrade. That 4850 is looking nicer and nicer. But i'll wait and see if the 4770 is as good as it is priced. It looks like a good performer and its just right on my budget.. which is about $100 and below. :)

I do pretty well with mine. Its running with an overclocked 9800GTX.
The only game it doesnt like is GTA IV. But its crap anyway.

I guess it depends if you have a preference for ATI/AMD or nVIDIA. You can pick up a 260 cheap these days.
