Hi Guys

this is the story, i have used my PSU in an P4 system with a 4870 installed everything was awesome. now upgraded my mobo and my CPU and the PSU is running so hot its untrue. upon inspection i notice a front venting fan was not spinning, why is this?

there is another 134mm (big one) still spinning just to note. so the fans cant be dead.

the back on the PSU seems to be fine..... blowing warm air ill guess around the 40 degrees region the problem lies on the top of my case where the 80mm venting fan is..... it is really hot there.

i really dont have a clue on why the fan is not spinning.

right i did a lil research thinking my voltages where too high on AUTO in the BIOS

below is a screen print of my CPU in HWmonitor

http://i192.photobucket.com/albums [...] stem-1.jpg

all readings are idle, there has been no other apps run prior to the screen print

BIOS READING

VCORE 1.288
+3.00 (it was below 3.00 something like 2.65 im not too sure but let me know if this is important)

+5.00v was running at 5.178/138
will this make a difference? this was the only abnormal 1 i saw :S im a complete noob when it comes to voltages this is my 1st proper build of a new tech hardware machine :P)

can you guys see anything abnormal about this build?

should i be worried? if so what should i be worried about?

is this normal for some people and if i carry on as it is will it blow up? :O

lol :P

thank you for taking your time in reading my thread i appreicate all the help you have give me and would like thank you advance.

Regards

Sean

well easier said then done, kinda spent all my budget :P.

will i be doing my PC any danger if i left it as it is, i did some burn in tests and at full load 100% CPU usage the temp of my CPU was a maxium of 58 degrees.

is there any danger here?

Kind Regards

Sean

its not the temp, but possible voltage spikes that would worry me.

Reply to BadTrip

voltage spikes?

Please enlighten me on this matter, i am a complete noob with all this voltage talk please can you explain..

am i expericing it?

and what dangers does it hold?

Regards

Sean

Right guys i done abit of case modding... lol

i got a 80mm fan and placed it where the PSU fan and reversed my 120mm to exguast and now the case is really cold all over.

when i placed my hand in the case its not hot anymore and its is really cold, its colder then my room lol

but my CPU still says 50 degrees idle.... why?

what what is all this talk about voltage spikes?

is my CPU running normal?

what is the recommend idle and max load temp for this CPU?

what are your temps with the stock cooler and thermal paste with this CPU?

Regards

Sean

Quick update i did another burn in i got to a stable temp 61 degrees or less when CPU is at 100%

Now is there any danger here and could the CPU die?

Regards

Sean

Reply to nytrus90

61 degrees is fine. Normal for modern CPUs. But it is quite hot.

a lower quality power supply is made with cheap components that can send irregular voltages, which can damage other components in your system. The fans not spinning in your power supply indicates it is damaged. I wouldn't trust it.

ok guys that PSU i was telling you about..... well its dead

i rebooted my machine and it burned out. could it of killed anyother components?

only smells were coming from the PSU not any other component

it has a safety over voltage feature. it seem that it blew to over heating. due to that fan being dead.

if this has happend to anyone else could they please tell me their experience on this matter

Yeah, only buy PSUs from respectable manufacturers. I'd only put Antec, Corsair, and Seasonic into that list. But others such as Thermaltake, Coolermaster, OCZ, and occasionally Rosewill could suffice.
