Is this ram cooler only compatible with triple channel ram, or all types of ram?

The reviewers on for this product on Tiger direct all seem to have Triple Channel motherboards, so I was wondering

Caveat: I don't own either product. But looking at the literature, here is my analysis.

The Corsair Dominator memory line includes both DDR2 and DDR3.

The CORSAIR CMXAF1 is the "DOMINATOR Airflow Fan for Corsair Dominator series memory".

The CORSAIR CMXAF2 (what you referenced) appears to have been designed as part of the Dominator-GT package:

Here is a video showing how to install the CMXAF1 over DDR2 memory: http://corsair.com/cinema/movie.aspx?id=361126

Would the CMXAF2 work for DDR2? Probably. But the CMXAF2 is more expensive than the CMXAF1 so why would you?

Anybody else care to comment?

The cooler is wider than the older 3 fan version to cover the wider memory slots on 6 slot X58 MOBOS. However, as long as your board has room, it will work as it clips to the memory locking tabs. DDR2 or DDR3 does not matter. Also, if you are using it with memory other than Dominator, it will work as long as your heatsinks are not too tall.

XMSYellowbead,
Going the otherway, can you use the older CMXAF1 with new X58 MOBOS? This information should be included in the specifications page on the CORSAIR website.

Thank you for sharing,

It's not designed for 6 slot MOBOs which is why we don't include it with tri-channel kits or state such in the specifications. However, it can be used but, it will not cover the modules as well.
