Upgrade to Q6600 problems

Hi all my fisrt post here and i must say what a great site

Ok I am a 3D graphics designer(3ds max/C4D etc) and for the last year i have been on E6550 core2duo
but recently I took the plunge and bought a Q6600 core2quad
now while I have seen a very vast improvement with rendering(perfect)
The problem I have is now i cant seem to start any of my games (nfs undercover, tdu, rfactor,and some others)
the game starts i get splash screen then screen goes black(computer does nt freeze/hang
so i am able to ctrl/alt/del to end the game which i cant play

In device manager,cpu-z, sissandra, every thing shows normal
please advise as to what i am missing out
or should it just be a simple case of changinging cpus without any extra drivers etc


my current specs are as follows

Intel core2quad Q6600
asrock 4Core1600P35-WiFi
4GB OCZ pc2-6400 @800mhz
ATI radeon X1950xtx toxic 512ddr3
coolermaster 850 psu

I'd try installing the latest drivers and reinstalling DirectX

9c if you are on XP

10 if you have Vista

also im sure you have but

If you haven't reinstalled your OS; going from 2core to 4core does require a OS reinstall
