I bought the diamond 4890 at frys.. and it made a weird noise when under load, kind of whining, so i took it back and bought the xfx version of the 4890 and had the same problem, im wondering if this is a coil whine.. and if so how i can resolve this problem, or what i should do. I thought it might be my PSU because i barely meet the card req, at 500W, help me out.

What make and brand is your PSU? And how many amps does it have on the 12V rail?

antec earthwatts 500w.. not sure, can you look it up?

I looked it up says +12v1 is 22 and same with +12v2

antec earthwatts is a quality psu... and it hink 22a on each rail should be enough for 4890. Could just be that 4890 has an annoying cooler on it in which case opt to buy aftermarket cooler those are best esp cause then you can turn it on lower rpms like 1200-1600 where most fans are at a whisper notice

So it should be like 40+ amps? It should be plenty for a 4890, i'm not quite sure about diamond as many members here say that it is a bad brand and XFX is the maker of Nvidia cards so not quite sure about that either. Maybe go with a manufacturer like Asus or Sapphire, those are like big ATi brands.

XFX is one of the best distributors out there and since they now do ATI cards I will be XFX exclusive for a long time to come. I would take XFX and even Diamond over a Sapphire MIR any day, they got investigated for their horrible MIRs before.
