Motherboard support question

I plan on building a new pc, but I have to buy the components separately due to funds. Right now I have a an athlon 64 x2 4400 running on a pcchips a15g motherboard.
I want to make a system with a Phenom II x2 550 and Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P, but if I buy the motherboard first, I won't be able to use it until I buy the processor.

My question is should I buy the cpu first, and if I do will it run on my existing motherboard until I upgrade it?
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if this is in the right section, and if it isn't could someone move it for me? Thanks!

First of all you have to make sure that you mobo can take the new CPU...Going through this website, it says otherwise...

So I would suggest you wait till to get the full cash to buy the CPU and mobo together...
