Is it possible to get a free program to convert an rm video file for
RealPlayer to a mpeg video file that I can play on Windows Media Player and
thus load onto and play on my Viewsonic V35 Pocket PC?

Well, real player for PC actually allows you to sync to a mobile
device. So in theory you could sync it natively to the V35, assuming
you install real player for PPC onto it.

The PPC real player is actually fairly decent as a player, but has
major drawbacks such as not supporting rtsp streams from online radio
and so on. But for file playback it should be OK.

What I find a minor irritant with it, is that there's no minimise
button (X) in the top right and it hides the task bar/start
button/wisbar area, so you have to actually exit and stop playing a
file if you want to do anything else !

Thanks Neil,

I just downloaded Real Player for Pocket PC. I didn't realize it was
available for free with FREE being the key word here.

Now I am watching my Real Player Video of John McLaughlin playing
"Cherokee" on my Pocket PC. If you want to see this terrific video, you
can download it from:
http://www.angelfire.com/jazz/jm3/med.html

Video quality is no too great, but the guitar playing is heavenly.

John E. Golden

Yep, as you've discovered, http (web server) files work fine ;-)

But news sites using rtsp streaming (eg some BBC clips) don't work on
the PPC player. Maybe they'll fix it as a result of negative user
feedback. I suspect not, though.
