I have a AMD 6000+ CPU on an SLI motherboard (Foxconn C51XEM2AA-8EKRS2H) and using 32bit Vista.
I'm currently using a ATI 3870X2 video card which I have issues with.
I use my PC mainly for gaming with a 24" monitor (1920x1200).
I will be slowly upgrading my PC over the year (i7 + motherboard + Win7 64bit,eventually)
First I want to upgrade the video card.
My choice is either a GTX285 or two GTX260 (216).
In Australia I can get the 285 slightly cheaper ($20-30) than two 260's but that depends on brands.
Here we are paying over AUS$300 for a 260 card up to AUS$900 for a 295 card.
For peoples information, prices for the i7 CPU's are up to AUS$1700 for the 940.
My question is, sticking with Nvidia which would be the better video card combination?
From what I read two 260's may be better but then some people say that SLI may be a problem in some games.
Thanks

Correction the AUS$1700 is for the i7 965 NOT the 940
With the i7 CPUs, the nvidia SLI works very well...And yes 2 cards in SLI may have some problems but nowadays the SLI scales very well...
I would suggest you check out the GTX 275...For the current games, at 1900X1200 resolution, the GTX 275 and the GTX 285 perform very much the same...and the GTX275s are about US $70-80 cheaper...So if you are able to get hold of a GTX275, then get that...

And you can save money going with the i7 920...they are better value than the 940...And if you are ok with overclocking, the i7 920 overclocks like a charm...
Two GTX 260 will beat the GTX285 for sure, but if you want a "progressive upgrade", just buy 1 first as for "higher-end cards" the PCI-e 1.1 bandwidth will limit the performance and so might the CPU. You can always buy a 2nd one, cheaper by then, when you get the i7.
If you plan on staying at a 1920x1200 resolution, a GTX285 should be more than enough for most games; you could always get a GTX275 and add a second one if needed.
