Any idea on the performance of the Phenom II X4 965BE versus the 955BE? Or a release date? Is it worth the upgrade? The Phenom II X4 965BE is 200MHz faster than the 955 at around 3.4GHz - straight out of the box, But is it still limited to the same overclocks as the 955BE? It just an overclocked 955BE?
Any Commits?

samples are going out next week, doesn't mention retail... maybe a month or two

this post is also pretty interesting

I'm hearing that the C2 revision-stepping of Deneb can allow making SKUs till 3.80 or even 4.00 GHz safely, maybe the higher clocked ones scraping the 140W TDP mark. I can't confirm this though.

here's hoping they get that tdp down a little

Can you and Psycho let the man be proud? Can you get the stick out of your asses?

Damn people need to chill...

As for the Phenom 965, there has been no recent news.

There's a difference between pride and posting a shitty pic in every god damn thread...
June 27, 2009 5:49:52 PM

Yeah because it is just so inconvenient...
June 27, 2009 5:52:30 PM

Its a nice setup to be sure, but unless real people are there to share it, its somewhat pointless after awhile, even on the I N T E R N E T

Agreed, it is a nice setup, but we dont need to see it anymore. He is as bad a dragonsprayer, if not worse. I consider this to be spam.

Maybe, we should make ONE thread, just for posting pics of your pc. That way, he can post it one last time....
June 27, 2009 11:21:22 PM

What. I had to rate up half the posts of this thread (and I still can't save you from the frenzy, Blood Raven) . For Christ's sake. Well, I'm waiting for the 965. I just hope they increase the NB speed to 2.2, at least.
June 28, 2009 12:59:26 AM

Getting back on topic. Is there really much of a difference between the two chips besides the increased multiplier? If that's the case just OC the 955 and save yourself some money.
June 28, 2009 1:09:42 AM

Being that this could be a different rev or stepping etc, it could also give you 200Mhz on full out oc over the 955, which some people will want. Realize, this is AMDs setup, always has been, where those steps are important, whereas Intels mid and highend chips usually arent bought by most ehthusiasts, as their cost to perf ratio doesnt merit it, where here youre talking 30$ ?
June 28, 2009 1:11:51 AM

Example, the i940 vs the i920. First gen C2Ds, the 6600 vs the 6700 etc

Probably just an increased multiplier over the 955. Doubt there is any reason for an overclocker to purchase it.
June 28, 2009 5:02:03 PM

O Im sure its a new stepping, so it will probably OC another 200-300 Mhz, nothing mind blowing tho.
June 28, 2009 5:11:36 PM

if you own a 955 already, and unless youre just into top clocks, no, most wont buy it over whats available, tho, a few will. What this will do however is bring it that much closer to i7 at stock

At least he got rid of the hand creme (or sanitizer) bottle :bounce:

I gotta admit, I like the green lava lamp. But he can keep the rest of it :D

That was actually a bottle of Germ-X hand sanitizer. Its alcohol content would make in unsuitable for a personal lubricant if thats what you were hinting at.

+1 for the green lava lamp

Is the Phenom 965BE the 'TWKR' ?

It looks like AMD is getting good yields from their 45NMs - with continuing improvements and a few chipset updates (look forward to the new sb800) hopefully they will tum a profit ...

In the next few years :)

That's not going to happen until Orichi hits the market in 2011. Even by then, Intel, with 10 times more money into R&D and numerically superior army of engineers, may present something even better than i7. Unless Intel botched again like they did with Netburst, or AMD is really lucky with their new architecture, we're not going to see FX brand for a long time.

Unless the uncore is able to reach higher frequency with reduced latency to L2 and L3.

June 28, 2009 10:51:29 PM

Honest opinion? Too little for too much. Therell be some people this will benefit right away, while the vast majority wont. So too little perf benefits for more monies.
Im not saying I dont like the idea of MT, or HT, and dont recognize the need for it. And even Intels turbo, for average Joe, its great, but 12 threads? For work, yes and maybe, for play? Not yet, not for awhile.
Let me put it this way. If someone offered me a 295 from nVidia, I wouldnt turn it down, tho itd be pure overkill for me, but its not as tho a lil overkill would be that bad either. Its just, for most people, they wouldnt even know how to install it, wouldnt have the psu to drive it, and alot of them never game anyways. Same thing with the hex cores.
For some enthusiasts, sure, some not at all, and some, its needed

Ok for the love of god!

Notice how his first comment was actually useful? He states his Phenom 955 can hit 4.2 Ghz, meaning that a Phenom 965 would be more or less useless.

The only thing he did wrong was post a picture that EVERYONE could easily have ignored.

And now to make my point I am going to post some random cute cat pictures:

So glad I can annoy so many hater intel fanboys here with my pics. Also that the small details that everyone pays attention to is amazing. That germ x bothers so many and to be analyzed so much as what I do with it, lol. Too funny! Most of them are also iPhone haters on top of bashing anything amd and those that show off what they have. Another reason to go against the tide of overpriced, darkside that intel is. Every review I see about i7 this i7 that makes me crap even more, longer in the toilet lol. More power to you haters, it just fuels me even more to be different and go against the grain of intel.

In the immortal words of Shakespeare, Soldier...you "doth protest too much"

A) I'm not a intel fanboy. I am AMD on all my builds.
B) You gotta admit it's funny...you had a pic of ur girl and a bottle of a cream/gel/lotion next to your keyboard.
C) I don't hate iPhones...never touched one. I can buy a 4870x2 for what one costs
D) Go against the grain. I encourage it. That's what I've done all my life...be a geek and a musician and science nut, rather than an athlete even tho I'm 6'6 and 300+ (and yes, the football coaches and players always asked/begged me to play).

I don't think anyone made fun of the hand gel to be mean, but it was funny tho...ya gotta admit.

As for haters...I don't like haters...I am peace-loving. Even been thinking next winter about signing up to go on that boat on Whale Wars and be a techno nerd throwing rotten butter oil bombs at Japanese whaling vessels. I always told my friends I shoulda been born 20 years earlier and a hippie. :D

I wonder if AMD up-ed the cache or managed to bring down the TDP?

Be interesting to see.
July 1, 2009 4:26:40 PM

^ nah, it'll just be a P2 with C2 stepping, standard 8MB total L2+L3 cache, etc but with an extra base multiplier but slightly higher actual TDP although AMD will sell it as a 125w piece.

I'll only be interested in getting a P2 if they release a 4Ghz piece.

Be nice if they came out with one later this year, which is when I'm gonna build a new, top-of-the-line box.

Could be NB is higher. Could be another stepping, who knows?

Yeah. might be that RS880 or whatever they were talking about releasing sometime?

I just can't wait til November. If I get enough bills paid off by then, I am gonna knockout a $2k+ system and be happy for at least 18 months

Yeah, I can't wait to see what comes out of AMD, especially since seeing the TWKR stuff. Makes me wonder what they are experimenting with to try and improve.

But it's like I told someone else the other day. I'd buy Intel 775 stuff, but it's being phased out completely in lieu of 1366. 1366 stuff is just too darned expensive right now, even tho you get a small performance increase compared to cost.

I mean...I'm not rich, but I can afford a new PC every year or two no problems. But, I always have an issue with spending money on impractical improvements that won't make a real difference in what I'm doing with it.

After all, that's why I drive a Kia instead of a BMW. Which would get me to work safer? Probably my Kia, since it sits higher

We'll see what happens with AMD. I'm hoping for the best too.
July 2, 2009 12:11:05 AM

I honestly don't care what brand CPU is. I was planning on going with intel but did not want to go with old tech like the 775 or AM2/2+ in the case of AMD. I went with the AMD 720 x3 because it gave me the clearest upgrade path and the deal was hard to beat. I am already toying with the idea of building a system for my kids to replace their pentium 4. I will likely pickup a cheap am2+ or am3 board and give them my 720 x3 and upgrade mine to a 965, 975 or whatever is out then. My question that since every seems to think the 965 will be a 955 with with the multipler increased, what chip do you think will be a significant upgrade from the 955? I would rather wait until I get a real increase in power and speed not simply a chip that can be equalled with a 955 with a small amount of overclock. The 3.8 to 4.0 ghz sounds appealing. What is the purpose of coming out with a 965 BE if it overclocks about the same as the 955. I could understand if it were not a BE because the non oc crowd could see it as a real increase over the 955 or 920 (AMD). If I were going to use this upgrade stratedgy with the 1366 intel platform I would go broke. I also would have no option to keep cost low by running onboard graphics intially.

July 2, 2009 12:26:21 AM

Unfortunately, I'd go with the conservative option here. If the 965 isn't quite what was being reported, I'd think it's probably 'just' a 3.3ghz part instead of 3.4ghz.

It really hasn't been that long since the 955 was released so to expect another 0.2ghz in such a short time is asking quite a lot.
