Just an introductory warning, I'm fairly new to the flashing computer BIOS so I am sorry if this has already been covered/a really noob question.
Today I decided to update my 780i SLI motherboard BIOS. My first attempt was to use the CD method (download ISO and mount to CD etc.) I rebooted and it gave me the option when it was in POST to with Delete - Enter Bios or Alt+F2 - AWDFLASH.EXE. Assuming that was the correct EXE from the ISO i hit Alt+F2, it then added text to the bottom "Decompressing 'AWDFLASH.EXE' from BIOS, please wait..." after about 10 minutes nothing changed, so I rebooted and installed it in a different manner.
Now my BIOS are completely flashed and updated but I have two problems
-Every time I boot I get the Alt+F2 - AWDFLASH.EXE option. I have never had this before I attempted to flash my BIOS with a CD, but now it will not go away. Any solutions?
-I read a post about not running AWDFLASH.EXE correctly and ultimately slows computer performance. Maybe it's just paranoia but I feel as if after I restarted after "Decompressing 'AWDFLASH.EXE' from BIOS, please wait..." was frozen, my computer has been increasingly sluggish. Probable?
Let me repeat this yet again.
The Golden Rule of BIOS updating. If if ain't broke, don't try to fix it.
Unless the BIOS update your are going to flash is specifically written to fix a specific problem you are having, it is completely pointless to update your BIOS. And yes, many later BIOS revisions can only lead to problems and incompatibilties with older boards.
Did you reset the BIOS after you flashed it?
