Hard drive setting in bios for gateway laptop

Hello,
hi have a475-M gateway Laptop and i'm having trouble on installation with XP.It doesnt see hard drive and there is no setting in BIOS for hard drive to change from AHCI to IDE or anything else...does it mean that it needs a third party drive. how do we install it. please help.

Sounds like XP's default drivers don't recognize your HDD controller, or your HDD is defective.

Does your BIOS recognize the HDD? If so, you may need to download a driver from Gateway and manually load the driver at install (the old F6 option).

If your BIOS can't see the HDD, you likely have a defective HDD or HDD controller and may need to go back to Gateway for service.
