I've recently downloaded drivers from dell for my 531s.It rans slow and sluggish after that.I considered doing a restore.I turned the pc on and it sounds as if it is going to take flight,it's a high pitched whirring that increases in "speed" and it just beeps twice, stops, beeps twice, stps and repeats this and nothing comes up so I can't boot into any utilities

hmmmm..... i think it maybe your graphics card.

open the case up, take it out blow the card connectors and the PCIE slot (where ever the card goes) replace the card, make sure it is snuggly in :D and fire her up.

Report back once done

Thanks Sean, but it was not finding memory.I looked it up on the Dell support site and I reseated the memory and it booted up fine.

I'm still considering doing a restore.Since I updated a series of drivers suggested by Dell support as either urgent or recommended,it's been a little slow.

ah that old chest nut, well im glad you got her fired up and working again. if you have anymore problems then please return to this thread i will be more then happy to assist you, to the best of my knowledge :P

the reason i suggested it may of been a graphics card issue was because just yesterday i was putting an old P4 together because my PSU blew up on my gaming rig (see my thread) and it gave me the same beeping sequence as you described. i reseat my graphics card and it was fine there after.

Kind regards

Sean
