Im looking to gut my machine and use these parts.

I got about £400 to spend on these three parts. Can anybody suggest any alternate setups for the same budget? I use it for gaming surfing and media. Eventually ill have two monitors running. I also want to use my existing nvidia 8800gts 320mb, will this card do the rest justice?

It's a very future-proof setup, i.e. using AM3. However, you could get something faster using AM2+ and DDR2 for the same total price.

Corsair Dominator 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-8500C5 TwinX £78

Phenom II 940 £199

Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 AMD 790X (Socket AM2) £92

The 8800GTS 320MB will not do the rest justice. It's not a bad card, but there are mainstream cards these days that are a lot faster. Here's a £165 XFX HD 4870 1GB for example that would work really well there.

If you get that card you can also add a second one later in Crossfire, but you might have to upgrade the power supply too at that time.

Total of 423.98ex vat and you can play almost any game max settings
i have the same setup and it tackles anything with pride, but i still have a evga 8800 gts 320 mb sc and its by far my biggest bottleneck, the 4870 would cure any problem that 8800 gts gives you. and there is no performance gain in ddr3

LOL, great minds think alike. We posted the same thing within 4 seconds of each other :)

I like Jared's idea better than mine, TBH. The triple-core CPU + good graphics card will beat the 4-core GPU + old graphics card in every game I can think of except FSX.
