My brother has a Dell Inspiron 537, looks just like this:

http://i44.tinypic.com/2lsb0up.jpg

1, 120mm fan on the back, some vent holes on the side there and the other side has nothing.... He's adding a PC Power & Cooling 500 Watt PSU and a xfx gts 250 512mb video card.... We are both worrying about heat in this case with the new stuff....

What are some cheap ways that we can get some more of that hot air out? I was thinking a pci slot fan?

if you guys are going to be gaming i suggest getting a 260GTX (maybe a factory overclock one, bit like the one from BFG) they are near enough the same as a standard 280GTX without the price tag.

i would not suggest getting a GTS 250 for gaming, for future proof go for the 260GTX.

as for the temperture issue i dont think that it will matter too much, as long there is cold air going threw the case and/or air going out the case you should be fine.

just make sure you adjust the graphics card fan in the Nvidia tuning tool (cant remember the name, think it is called Riva Tuner) but yeah look at the temp there and if you feel its too hot set the fan maullaly yourself.

i had this issue with my 4870 the fan speed was on auto and the card was running at 80 degrees gaming -.- now thats not dangerous as some people says it can go 2 120 degrees before it is classed as not healthy (i stand to be corrected on this one)
so i adjusted the fan myself with the tool ati give you and now it runs at 55-60 degrees gaming at 50% fan speed. a lillte noisey but it does the job.

so bottom line is get the 260GTX if your going to be gaming (im guessing you are) and dont worry about the temperture problem too much, youll be finem just use the advice i have provided if you feel it becomes an issue.

Sean

Thanks for the reply, There is no air "going into" the case because it doesnt have a front fan... I thought about maybe either the pci fan or a better 120mm fan for the back to pull more air out.. Ill wait and see how it runs first.

As for the card, we are keeping this one a budget pc, I just built a gaming rig with a GTX 285, and we have $130 max for the video card... Im stuck between the 9800GTX and the GTS 250, everyone says the 250 is a little better..

This gaming rig wont be for long term, just a couple of years until he can get on his feet, finish college and find a damn job lol.

I have to ask though, Why do you say not the GTS 250?

it seems like a decent card.

Well dont get me wrong its a alright card today but for future proof i would personally go for the 260GTX but hey as you are saying its on a budget then i guess a 250 gts will do fine.

i would also suggest that you do put a 120mm exaughst fan on the back, if possible place a 120mm fan to suck in cool air from the front, i think the case will have holes where the front panel is, if you cant screw it in there then get some cable ties and jus tie it on there lol. but i think you will be fine with just the 120mm exaughst fan.

Kind Regards

Thanks again.

It has a fan for the back, but Im sure its not to great. My rig is in a NZXT Tempest "airflow king" and the fans on it sucked, I replaced them all with scythe slipstreams.

well as long as you get the air in and out you will be fine. not much i could say on this matter.

Oh that case has some nice air flow ;)

well, you could always get a drill and make some nice holes in the lower middle ( so u can fit the fan right behind the card, stock holes won't do so plug them instead), put a 80mm high power fan (if your not worried about noise).... its a skinny case so make sure the fan doesn't run onto anything... thats my take

oh and 250 is a great card ( i have an HD4850 and they are about even)

Do you know of a video that shows how to do this?

youtube has loads of that kind of stuff (i don't have and didn't use any, just have to be careful and use commonsense)

What can I use to find the temp. inside my case?

Reply to beitzel15

speedfan is the most obvious, but you have to kind of figure out which temp is for what, sometimes it is labeled

Thanks.

Imma try and put in a 80mm fan on the side with a filter, then put in a pci fan inside the case to help move out some warm air since ill be lacking in fans.
