I've just recently gotten my hands on an older computer. Its an emachines build, specifically the S2482. Its billed as 2400+ on the outside, but when i run sandra diagnostics on it, I see that the processor is a 1.5 Ghz, not the 1.8 ghz that I think is actually suppossed to be in the machine. From sandra the mainboard manufacturer is listed as ECS(Elitegroup), model number KM266-8235. Is it possible for me to upgrade the CPU on this machine? I am having trouble navigating AMD's website to obtain information. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

i wouldn't bother, looks like thats socket A(462), i would just save the money for a new system, for a basic computer if you already have keyboard, mouse, monitor you can spend as little as $300

as for speed, i'm not sure

Your highest CPU upgrade would be a AMD Duron 1.8GHz, hardly worth the effort.

+1 on that, anyway you a dual-core processor (amd or intel ) is most definitly worth it as a minimum these days.

I strongly recomend it
