Hi guys

I'm upgrading my Shuttle from an old 2.2GHz 65w AMD Athlon X2.

I'm trying to debate whether to upgrade to a:

2.6Ghz 45W AM2 -- This one because it has lower power consumption thus makes my PC run cooler in addition to the speed boost, right?

2.8GHz 65w AM2 -- This one for the straight speed boost.

I was basically wondering if the upg to the 2.6ghz would really make a noticeable difference, or if I should go all the way to the 2.8ghz. I'm leaning toward the 2.6 right now because I really like the 20w power drop.

What do you think?

Thanks for any tips

What type of motherboard do you have? I recently got an AthlonII 250 Regor and it is much much better than any Brisbane or Kuma. If you want low wattage, I managed to keep the Athlon II at 3ghz with a low 1.16v.

Really a .4ghz upg doesn't make a difference?

Yeah I'm also upgrading my video card from a 8600GT to a 9800GT

I guess the macbooks are stupid then since they charge a ~$200 difference for a .2ghz upg.

Duh.

In general, the 400 Mhz jump to 2.6 is pretty meager, and probably not worth the money. Depending what motherboard you have, as suggested you may be better off going with a new 45nm dual core.

I you do want to upgrade and stick with dual-core then the PhenomII 550 is pretty good (assuming BIOS supports it), although it is 85W but if you stick with a 65W or lower I don't think you'll notice any difference.

Sounds good guys thanks for the tip.

I'm gonna go for the 45w one. At least it will reduce heat noticeably, right? -__-
