Would a core duo chip from a mac laptop be compatible into a dell laptop? (assuming chipset is the same... ) i imagine so, but just wanted to confirm it.

Should be, there isn't any difference in the hardware as long as your Dell supports that cpu.

Just note that laptop CPUs are usually not easily swappable/upgradeable.

I'm not so sure about that. You have to see what socket the laptop and the desktop have. You have to give us more details about the laptop and the desktop.

www.twitter.com/bxchen put a intel osx mac software system into a pc computer he wrote about it in Wired mag. it worked fine. the chipset is the same

No, you made a mistake buying a Mac, you can't put that tainted chip into a PC now, sorry.
