I'm struggling to make the best decision. I want to get a ATI Force3D 4850 or a Nvidia Inno3D GTS 250.

I think the 4850 is better than that GTS250, but what are your system specs.

Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2200 , 3 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard drive. By the way I want to upgrade I CPU during Christmas time. I don't a have a GPU.I know my motherboard will handle any GPU. I have a 450 PSU

Then the 4850 is better than the GTS 250, I think the GTS 250 is just a rebranded card.

Thanks man. But I will compare the two to make best choice

Is that processor overclocked? If not, I suggest you overclock it a little, just because even if you buy the GTS250, which is slower than the Radeon 4850, you will be bottlenecked by the processor.

PS.

GTS 250 = GeForce 8800GT = GeForce 9800GT = They are IDENTICAL.

Thats what i thought, I was thinking it might be a 9800GT. That 4850 is better than a 9800GT therefore better than the GTS 250

They are not identical. The GTS 250 is a rebranded 9800 GTX+ on a smaller PCB with a single six pin connector. Use less power and runs cooler.

The 9800 GTX+ is a 9800 GTX on a 55mm manufacturing process (vs. the original 65mm) and is higher clocked. They are all variants of the G92 chip. Older tech does not mean worthless tech - it means it was designed right to begin with and is still competitive.

The HD 4850 is not better. The two cards are for all intents and purposes neck and neck. There is the usual trading back and forth depending on if the game is ATI or Nvidia friendly. More often than not the GTS 250 (especially at higher resolutions in the 1GB version) is a little faster.

All that is academic anyway with your CPU, especially on a 22 inch or less monitor. You won't notice any difference between them.

Buy whichever is the best deal where you live.

Well I was considering a new processor I know that Intel's new chipset (Westmere) could arrive at anytime.Prices will drop . But I don't actually know when Shader Model 5 is coming out with the new Nvidia and ATI chipset. I know that DX 11 will arive with Windows 7. Can some graphics cards support DX11? How long will my card last if I get one. Any recommendations?

i recommend:

cpu: phenom II x3 720 BE or e7400

gpu:
pair phenom 720 with at least a gtx260 or 48701gb..

pair e7400 with at least a gts250 1gb(it has a newer board design than the 512mb) or 4850 512mb..
:D

LAWLS

9800GT is an OCed, smaller nm version of 8800GT

98000GTX is an OCed, slightly upgraded, and smaller nm version of the 8800GTS

9800GTX+ is an OCed and smaller nm version of the 9800GTX.

The GTS250 is an OCed, less power consuming, and smaller card size version of the 9800GTX+

8800GT/9800GT does NOT = GTS250

------------------------------ i7 920, E5300
GTX260, HD4870, HD4830
