After some trouble with my my current pc (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-258080_12_0.html) I was told that the CPU was causing a problem and I should replace it. So I am looking for a new CPU to go with my motherboard, Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2778) Since I am replacing the CPU, I might aswell upgrade some other parts, notabily, new RAM and a new hard drive. Does anyone have any recommenations for the CPU? The most important thing is that it should be 100% compatible with my board and ram, and reliable, I was thinking of the intel e8400 ( http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/30941/Intel-CPU-Core-2-Duo-E8400-3-0GHz-1333FSB-LGA775) , since I cant really exceed £150, there is also the possibility of an intel quad 6600 ( http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/21806/Intel-Core-2-Quad-Pro-Q6600-95W-Energy-Efficient ), but I do not know if its tottaly compatible with my Motherboard, and whether it is worth it over the E8400. I also need to buy some ram, since I only have 1GB right now it my system, I could do with a further 2GB, I was thinking about maybe these sticks ( http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/27139/Corsair-RAM-memory-2GB-TwinX-XMS2-6400-C4-DDR2 ) or http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/27140/Corsair-RAM-memory-2GB-TwinX-XMS2-6400-C4-DDR2 , but I am not sure if they are completely compatible with my motherboard, and would there be any problem if my other ram sticks were different, ie had a different latency or speed?
My current graphics card is a 9600GT, and I mainly use this PC for World of Warcraft, but other games are played on it too, so I would like to know if changing the CPU and ram to one that is mentioned above will have a positive effect on the FPS of the game when playing on maximum settings.
