I just built a PC with an AMD64X2 6000 processor, Brisbane core, on an ASUSM3A78 Pro motherboard. Also I am currently gaming on an Intel system, with a C2D, E4600 (2.4GHz, 800MHz fsb, 2mb L2cache). My video card is a 9800GT. Which processor is faster? Would I be better off pairing the 9800GT with the AMD system? The motherboard for the intel system, is a cheap Intel mATX board that doesnt allow for overclocking. I mainly play FPS type games, CoD4,CoD World at War, etc, on a 19 in LCD with 1440 X 900 native resolution. The C2d system currently has 2Gb of Corsair XMS675 ram, the AMD one has 4GB of OCZ DDR800 ram. I realize the difference in amount of memory makes a difference, but at this point I mainly wonder which processor is faster at stock speeds. I want to pair it with the 9800GT the other will get my MSI 9600Gt factory OC'd video card. Thanks

The short answer is at stock speeds the AMD 6000x2 is the faster processor for most things that depend on mhz for performance. It is just shy of the performance of the E6600 at stock. The E4600 OCs well and with its 12x multi it should do 3.0 ghz at stock voltages by just raising the FSB to 250. Doing this would actually put the E4600 in the E6850 class and although it is the same mhz as the A64 6000x2, it will outperform it. They both will top out depending on Mobo and cooling around 3.3-3.5mhz but the edge will go to the E4600.

edit: jtt283 posted this link and at the same cpu speed the E4600 is noticably faster (the smaller cache wouldn't alter the results much.)
