Gigabyte’s MA785G-UD3H MOBO specifications state :
"Note: Due to AMD AM3/ AM2+ CPU limitation, memory module DDR2 1066 or above speed is only supported by 1 dimm per channel."
I was planning on getting this MOBO, along with OCZ 1066 DDR2 PC2 8500 memory. Given the note above, would DDR2 800 supported as dual channel, net out to better performance? Thanks for any feedback

Don't buy that OCZ Ram....You have a very good chance of getting faulty sticks...

As far as running 1066Mhz in dual channel, yes you can but only at 4GB, meaning you will only be able to run at that speed using 2 dims.... If you decide later to run 8Gb or more your speed goes from 1066 to 800 due to the memory controller. Note: there is little to no difference at all between both speeds due to pc-8500 is really 800Mhz ram designed to run at a higher speed with a voltage increase.

If you decide on purchasing 1066Mhz ram get G.Skill or Kingston HyperX... OCZ's 1066Mhz Plats are garbage....

I purchased 2 sets back in April and both sets had a faulty module, they would work flawless at 800Mhz but once you up the volts it is the most unstable RAM I have used EVER.....

The only Plats that work fine at 1066 are these (1.8v) :

OCZ Platinum AMD Special 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

stay away from these:

OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

Thank you OvrClkr for the excellent advice. I plan on 8gb (4x2gb) running on Vista 64, so it sounds like my better bet would be G.Skill or Kingston HyperX 800 MHz - right? Is it best to avoid OCZ altogether?

Yes, as far as DDR2 1066Mhz goes OCZ is not up to par compared to other brands....Note: I base my opinion on AMD platforms. As far as Intel goes the outcome may be different.

Another thing you should know is that there is no point in buying 1066Mhz ram if you will be using more than 4GB.

Get this :

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820231122

or

Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820104020

If you need help adjusting the timings and voltage let me know....
