Is a q6600 ( running at 3.2 Ghz) upgrade to q9550 upgrade worth it for future proof. I do gaming video encoding and rendering. I am asking cause the q9550 is priced at $170. Thank you.

I would sell the q6600 first; you should ask about $150 for it. If you can't sell it, then keep it. The 9550 isn't much faster. The 6600 is valued for it's easy overclocking ability.

Being an owner of both, the Q9550 is not a significant upgrade step. A Q9550 at the same speed might be 10% faster - simply not noticeable. As far as future proofing, S775 is dead.
