ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: (Have never built a PC from scratch, This website has changed my life--and blown my mind with amount of good info. Would love to have a system to finally crank those textures all the way up on some top games, and provide smooth frame rates.)

I think with a $2000 budget it would be a shame to not build an i7. Why me did a great job keeping the price down, but there is a lot of room for improvement if you are ok with spending more. The i7 is the best thing out on the market right now and probably the best option for a new build on that kind of budget.

Ok for a $2000 gaming build, here is what I would do:

Optical: LG DVD $25
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136152

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116488

HDD: WD Cavair Black 1TB $130
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284

CPU/GPU: i7 920 and GTX 285 Combo $565, $30 MIR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.173994

another GPU (SLI) and Ram: GTX 285 and OCZ Platinum $410, $20 MIR Ram, $30 MIR GPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.173491

Mobo: P6T Deluxe V2 $290
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131365&Tpk=p6t%20v2

Case and PSU: CM Storm Sniper and 850TX $240, $20 MIR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.176943

CPU Cooler: TRUE RT-1366 $70
http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/thermalright-ultra-120-extreme-1366-rt.html

Thermal compound: MX-2 $7
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186020

That comes to about $1990 with shipping included, then you get MIR -$100, grand total around $1900. You get 2 free COD games with those GPU's, keep one for yourself, think of the other as an additional $35 rebate and sell it on ebay or craigslist. That PC will whoop ass
