Does anyone think this power supply will feed these video cards. I am using these so I can get 8 monitors. Using it for 2D graphics (charts and spread sheets) 90% of the time and some light gaming and movie watching the other 10%. ATI calls for 1000W when two are used in crossfire, but I wont be using them in crossfire. What do you guys think. Thanks.

I would think it should be sufficient, as the PCP&C unit is of very high quality, however I am uncertain of the power requirements of the 4850X2.

How accurate is the eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite v2.5. I used these inputs and it came out to 668 watts.

intel q9550
High performance MOBO (GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P )
2 4850 x2 video cards in crossfire mode(not using crossfire)
4 sticks of DDR2
3 250mm fans
1 High speed SATA hard drive
calculated at 100% load!!!!!
1 DVD/CD burner

On the spec sheet it recomends 650w for one 4850 x2 and 1000w for two. This is saying I could get away with 2 4850 x2 cards with only 668w. Even if I went 30% over it would be 868w. If this is true then I think I will be ok. What do you guys think.

Any thoughts on this one?

I would recommend a Corsair HX750 or 850 instead, better quality, modular and more efficient.

The reason why I am using the 4850 x2 is so I could use 8 monitors, as stated before. I will check out that Corsair. Thank you. Does anyone know how reliable that number is from the calculator? Thanks.

Better quality than PC Power and Cooling?

You sir are an idiot.

Stick with 850W+, anything less will be approaching its limits and will be less efficient and probably die sooner.

I can't agree any more with B-Unit. "Theanimal", you are causing much more harm than good. If you are unsure about power requierments and power supplies, please don't post info which can cause confusion as well as costly repairs. Non Modular power supplies are generally more efficient because there is less junctions/connections. PSU manufactures have said the same and anyone with any electrical experience should come to the same conclusion. 910W should be sufficient, although I wouldn't use any less. PSUs age and therefore it is a good idea to get a little more now so you have enough later on.

Absolutely. Go look at some reviews.

He's not using the cards in Crossfire, so only one will ever be stressed.

PSUs and power requirements are something I know quite a lot about. The PSUs I recommended are plenty of power for the system.

The HX750 and 850 are the first 80Plus Gold certified PSUs for sale.

PC P&C has been spreading this FUD for years.

750W+ is more than sufficient. The OP is not using the cards in Crossfire. A single HD4850x2 uses ~220W at load. Only one card will ever be at load.

Why does the spec sheet say 650w for a single 4850 x2 and 1000w for a crossfire setup. It seams like you guys think this is way overkill or crossfire just puts that much more of a load on the system.

AFAIK the second card in a CF/SLI setup actually uses a little less power than the first.

Recommendations are over-estimated to account for all the crappy PSUs which are available.
