Graphics card causing system to switch off

I recently purchased a CPU with the following configuration
1. Intel Core 2 Duo E7400
2. ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS (Intel G31 based)
3. DDR2 800MHz - 2GB

The system works well in this configuration.

But once I insert a Zotax NVidia 8400GS graphics card, the system initially powers up but within few seconds switches off.

I request help in this regard

It seems that the Asus motherboard was faulty. Now the graphics card is working fine with a new motherboard (I was given P5KPL-CM as replacement). Thank you for your support.
