Xigmatek HDT-S1283

I recently built a new system with a phenom 2 X4 940 processor. I used the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 CPU cooler because of all the recommendations I had seen for it. When I fired up the system the first time, the cooler fan did not start (just kind of kicked a few times, like it wanted to start, but would not) and the system did not turn on. I switched out the Xigmatek cooler for the stock one, and the system works fine. Does anyone have any idea what I may have done wrong?

Sounds like you got a bad fan? You could just replace it, probably easier than sending the cooler back

Wait, you did use thermal paste, right?

I used the thermal grease that came with the cooler.

I would go with bad fan too. If the fan doesn't spin (for a reason or another), the system won't start to protect the CPU from burning .

Have you check your BIOS settings for CPU fan? Is there any kind of control for it?

Okay, I'll bench test the fan. I don't know if there are BIOS settings specific to the fan. I can check that too.
