I remember years ago there were a few people who owned the quad fx, yet no one ever posts anything about them. the dual socket was a great idea with bad execution, they were noisy, ran hot,and required a 1000 watt psu . Funny thing though, if amd were to bring out a similar system today, it would work out great, the have quads that run at 75 watts, a 6 cores that run at 115 watts, those would be awesome systems.
Actually, there are a good many of them at XtremeSystems Forums and 2CPU.
The last I saw (maybe a year ago) folks were running B3 Barcelonas in them - I don't know about Shanghai or Istanbul.
Particle started a thread at XS this week about a Super '2' socket 1207 that he hopes to mod for Istanbul with a new chip from BIOSMAN. If it will work on that mobo a mod should also work for the Asus L1N64-SLI WS.
IIRC Thunderpants is much more recent - I don't recall seeing any of his AMD4Life posts back when JJ, Ninja, Cap'n April, BM et al were firing bazookas at each other. But then again I've been known to be wrong the odd occasion or two .
