Hey Guys,

Got a bit of a problem.
Suddenly out of nowhere my gaming performance has dropped massively and Riva tuner wont detect my gpu clocks, system info in 3dm06 calculates my gpu clocks at all 0.

I usually hit 14,750 and its currently hitting 5450 which is pretty awful.

Anyone had this problem before?

My system is as follows:
Q9450 @ 3.2
8800GTX
G-Skill 1066 DDR2, 4gig
Vista x64 Ultimate
NV 182.08 Drivers

I have tried uninstalling my drivers, and re-installing a few different releases of the nvidia drivers.
It cannot be a lack of power, the enermax psu is 500w and has been running the card since xmas 07.

Thanks heaps in advance guys, appreciated.

Did you look at your temps?

Yeah mate temps are fine, It has custom cooling so the temps sit around 50 on load.
It just feels like i swapped my 8800gtx out for a 8600gts or something.

If you've got a spare disk, it's worth installing windows again from scratch...but other than that, I've got no ideas.
Did you try running the card on a few different games? How well does it do there?

Only tried 3DM06 and COD4, both awful performance.
I think your right about formatting, i have my vista disk but was hoping to not have to do a clean install :)
Quick Question, would games run on the Win 7 beta? that might be fun to install while im at it, probably not safe to bet it would run without issues though right?

Run more games than just one, to be safe. They don't all work the same way.

As for Windows 7, actually, when I installed the beta on my notebook, I got a pleasant 5-10% performance boost across the board for gaming. It's very stable. I've gone back to Vista, for now, but I'm waiting to see the final numbers on the new OS.

I should add that that performance delta is against Vista...just for the record, I suppose.

But, yeah, I liked 7 a lot.

Damn it, i only have the iso for the 32 bit edition of Win7, and im running 64bit vista. Upgrade option is out of the Question, know a valid link for downloading the 64bit win7 iso?

Card sounds like it's failing.

I agree but i hope your wrong,
Although the cards looking pretty ghetto these days, cut up plastic and superglue + sprite bottle cooler mods

Just about any major torrent site should have a very well seeded 64bit iso of the latest build

I had this exact same problem on my 8800GT last night. On my last 3dMark pass which scored a miserable 6.1k, I actually got an nVIDIA nv4_disp.dll error saying the driver encountered a blah blah blah... need to reboot... blah blah blah... You know the drill.

After I rebooted, and while I was on the phone with eVGA tech support, I re-ran 3dMark06 and wham, the problem was gone. Right back up to ~11k scores. Shocked the crap outta me, as this card is a one-week old RMA replacement and I thought for sure it was headed down the defective pathway.

I dunno. I had Vista 32 and I installed W7 64 on another partition. Works fine. Have to say though, I really don't find much difference between W7 and Vista.

I'm no expert by any stretch of the word, so take what I say with a grain of salt but...

Have you double-checked the power cables to your card? If one came loose, might it cause a dramatic decrease in performance?

Yeah i definately checked all power cables and nothing was loose, problem is now solved.
Though i dont know what it was.... a fresh install of Windows 7 solved the problem.
Thanks to everyone that helped me out!

Fresh install of windows will solve at leat 75% of most 'hardware' issues. I try to reinstall every 3-6 months as a rule.

Reply to jennyh

Yeah, I reinstall every 6 months too. It also clears up a lot of space in C:
