Hi

Which one is better, E8200 or E6850? In addition, is DDR-1333MHz the best RAM for 1333MHz FSB CPUs?

Thanks!

I think e8200 would be better thab e6850 due to its 2 mb more cache and its overclocking potential.
It also has a advantage of being a 45 nm cpu.

Dont know about the ram tho............

I tend to believe that 6850 is better in tests even with 2 mb cache less but with 333 mhz more. If you buy E8200, you will be able to OC without problems especially that is a 45nm processor where E6850 is a 65 nm. I think you should buy the cheaper one.
You will require at least a DDR2 667 ram to be able to run syncron with the processor and to use the full potential of the processor. So a DDR2 1333 is more than enough.

So you both think E8200 is a better choice?

No, I said you should buy the cheapest one.

@ andy5174 both the CPUs are good but the E8200 would be better as it would give out less heat and like others have pointed out, has better o/c potential...

You dont need 1333MHz RAM for those CPUs...A very good set of DDR2 800 is more than suffice...
And dont waste money going DDR3 with intel LGA 775 CPUs...

Thanks. I heard that E8400 is the best overclocker in the C2D series. Why is that? How do you know recognize the potential of OC for CPUs?

In addition, will E6850 be a better choice if I don't intend to oc the CPU for more than 300MHz?

Reply to andy5174

Besides, how do E7400 and E5200 compared to them? Thanks a lot.

^ Those CPUs can only compete with the E6850 only if they are overclocked...
And one of the factors that decides if a CPU can good o/c is the multiplier...
And E8400 is not the best overclocker in the C2D series...It is E8600

E8400 - 9.0x multiplier and stock 333 MHz core clock speed -> 9 x 333 = ~3.0GHz
E8500 - 9.5x multiplier and stock 333 MHz core clock speed -> 9.5 x 333 = ~3.16GHz
E8600 - 10x multiplier and stock 333 MHz core clock speed -> 10 x 333 = ~3.33GHz

So you can see that the E8600 has higher multiplier, hence better overclocks...

I understand now. Thank you very much!

:) Glad it helped...

Hi, I just found that the bus/core ratio(?=no. of multipliers) of E6850 is also 9 at http://processorfinder.intel.com/d [...] Spec=SLA9U! Why is E8200 a better OC compared to E6850 then? Sorry for asking a bunch of nooby questions. ^^;

^ The E8200 would have less heat issues as it is a 45NM CPU and would run more efficient than that E6850...that is the reason to suggest E8200 over E6850...Else both are very good and either would do...
If you check the benchmarks here @TOMs, you can see that even @ just 2.66GHz, it has very comparable performance of the 3.0 GHz E6850...
I would suggest you spend more and get the E8400 as they overclock much higher and it wont be required to play with the CPU voltage to achieve a good overclock...

AMD Phenom II X3 720

If you are thinking about E8400 then also consider
AMD Phenom II X3 720 .It is cheaper than E8400.
Though U will have to get a compatible mobo.

IIRC the e6850 runs quite cool and was (is) a decent power-miser. eWiz has e6850 OEMs for $129 (I almost snagged one but decided my $129 was better spent on a Phenom 810 :D )

I think what makes them 'equal' is the e8200 has more L2 cache and SSE4 ... but it only has an *8* cpu multiplier Either one will work just dandy.

As gkay09 noted DDR2 800 will work fine. With the e6850 your RAMs will be 1:1 at 3.6GHz (400MHz x 9) and 3.2GHz with the e8200 (400MHz x 8).

Simply because of the price difference I'd go for the eWiz OEM e6850 --- especially if you already have a cooler (or snag the Phenom 810 early tomorrow when they restock if you are going to buy a mobo anyway).

I think that I have got the idea already. Your helps are really appreciated. Thank you guys!
