I have a HP 6735b with a Optiarc AD-561s DVD RW. I've had the Laptop for 2 years without any problems. Lately the reader reads when it wants, but won't read a disk when inserted. It revs up, dies down, clicks 3 times and then just idles. I've checked the drivers, and were told their good. Checked the device told no problems with it. I don't know what I did, but it's driving me mad. Any one have an idea or have had this happen to them? Thanks for the help.

What do you mean checked the device? Someone actually looked at the DVD drive and tested it as good? Or just the device in device manager just shows up as working? The clicking sure sounds like there is a hardware issue, I'd replace the drive.

Thank you for your answer. I was speaking to a friend of my son. He said to lightly clean the laser with a q-tip. It works fine now. Once again, thank you for your time.
