Sata hard drive is there a master and slave

SATA operates on independent channels (ports), unlike IDE/PATA which allows two HDDs on a channel (using a ribbon cable).

You should enter the BIOS (use the Del key, or F1, or F10 - it depends on your system), then look through the settings to ensure your HDD is recognized, and that it is a boot device. Usually, the first boot device is a floppy disk drive (if you have one), the second boot device is the CD/DVD drive, and the third boot device is a hard disk drive - that is where you select yours. Then Save and Exit the BIOS, and you should boot to your operating system (or CD, if you are trying to install an operating system.
