Hi everyone,

I am trying to set up a simple home network with two laptops. Here is my setup.

Westell 6100 modem (in bridge mode) from Verizon
Netgear WGT624 router
Computer A (Gateway) connected to the router via ethernet
Computer B (Dell) connected to the router via ethernet

Both computers have valid IP addresses, and I can successfully ping each computer from the other computer.

Firewalls are turned off

The Gateway is running Windows XP Professional. The Dell is running Windows XP Home.

I've given each computer a unique name. I've also put each computer in the same workgroup. I've enable file/printer sharing in the LAN preferences. I've also enabled sharing on certain folders on each computer.

On the Gateway, I can see it's own shared folders when I open the workgroup. I can not see any of the Dell's shared folders.

On the Dell, I can't see anything at all. When I open the workgroup, I can't even see it's own shared folders.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thank you!

Does anyone have any ideas as to why I can't share files between these two computers?

Have you shared any other folders other than the standard ones?
Try making a folder on the c: drive of each computer, right click and select sharing and security and share the folder.

Hi sturm, yes I actually tried sharing the whole C drive on each computer, and also sharing just one existing folder. Then I created new folders and I couldn't share those either.

Does anyone else have any insight?

Folders are shared for "everyone" user in security tab?

Try connecting to the other computers shared folder by this method.
example: //192.168.1.123/yoursharedfolder
