what do i need to download games for my pda? is there a program that i
have to put into my pda first to play it because i try to download all
these games but it says that i need to open an application within an
application for it to run. also what programs can my pda read?

As for the errors you have, be a little more exact. What is the error, or maybe which program are you trying?
There are only a few ways to get programs on your PPC.
1. Download a PPC compatible program directly to the device
2. Download PC compatible setup program and install on a host PC running activesync
3. Download a CAB file directly to the PPC and executing it, which installs the program locally on the PPC and then deletes itself.
To that end (#3), one site is popular for browsing to directly from the device and searching for programs. These are mostly cab files, which makes it really convenient when you have the device in hand and are looking for some goodies:

when i try to download games and i open it from my pda, it says "there is
no application associated with ___________. run the application first then
open this file within the application." what do i need to do?

You need to make sure that you have the appropriate application to handle the file extension of your downloaded game. Usually, you will have a .zip file and you have to unzip the file first before installation.
