Would an A6-3600 be a noticeable upgrade from a laptop core 2 duo?

My brother might be getting one and I'm still unsure about its performance. He likes to edit videos and render them with SonyVegas/AdobeAFterEffects.

It's an old prebuilt Asus G51vx Laptop in okay condition
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 @ 2GHz
RAM: 4GB DDR2
HDD: 320GB 7200 RPM
GPU: 1GB nVidia GTX 260M
Monitor: 15.6 inch LCD (1366x768) Display
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
Network: Integrated 10/100/1000 Network Card

Llano's integrated graphics core basically ranges from a little faster than a Radeon HD 5450 to a little faster than a Radeon HD 5570 desktop video card.

If the GTX 260M is basically equivalent to a 8800GT/9800GT video card, then it will be faster than the Radeon HD 6550D found in the Llano A8-3850 APU.

The A6-3600 graphics destroys any Intel graphics. You will need a dedicated AMD or Nvidia GPU to out power the older laptop. You will want an A6-3600 or i5 with at least a Nvidia 550m or AMD 6750m. Higher though would be better. How much was you wanting to spend?

The new computer is going to be a desktop. He was going to spend around $600 for the box. I know I could build a better one, but I found one at Best Buy w/ decent specs.

i5 2310 w/ integrated graphics
8GB Ram
1TB HDD
...but, it's a Gateway for $599.

The prices of hard drives will make any build hard right now. Also, a graphics card update would be easy if it's low powered.

Which brings me to my next question...how would a HD6570 be versus a GTX 260m? I can't find any good comparisons.

Not good as its about the same graphics performance. In a standalone card you need an HD 6670. I would suggest the tomshardware 600 build.

If you must have a prebuild this one comes with a 6670.

Cyberpower has a config builder if you want to build your own and have them assemble for you. Under video card change it to 6770 new year special.
