I was looking for a Dell laptop and definately want a PC not a Mac. What are some that could be helpful to me as a Liberal Arts major where all I would need it for is for writing term papers and doing research on

Depends on your budget and your preferences in screen size/resolution. Even something like a netbook would probably work fine.

If it's just for college work - then I would get a Dell mini 10v ($299) - super portable to take to class... Then look into getting a 22" (or bigger) monitor + usb keyboard and mouse for when you have a more serious projects etc to do.

But if you main reason is games rather then work - ignore this....
