I am looking for a 1000 euro build with 22 inch monitor and he wants a 5 year future proof (noob), I am still think between e8400, q8200, or a phenom II AM3 socket triple core to unlock 4rth one.

The stupid thing is his tiny budget and a new OS and Word.

I am leaning toward a AM3 triple core which unlocks the 4rth core and then OCing a 20% with a 4870. The games he plays are DOWII after he gets the Built and UT3 maybe, but not demanding games like crysis, we won't be able to game so much either since we are going to bets high schools in finland here soon which will greatly decrease gaming time, so conclusion is a 2 year good gaming performance and later on school tasks and light gaming comp.

how much tax?

if none or under 5% then an i7 pc will fit in your budget, but you'll need to switch to a AM3 955 and 790 motherboard if he wants a 4890(higher clocks than 4870 and comes with 1gb base model)

If you get a PII 720 and unlock the 4th core, I doubt you will be able to OC it. The 4th core is disabled due to instability when they get tested at the manufacturing plant. If you get a stable 4th core, I doubt it will be overclockable at all so don't count on it.
