http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... that 4870 is probably your best bet however depending on your resolution you may not need that much card. Your CPU may bottleneck you slightly as well.

Going to probably take more than 150$ to improve the CPU/MOBO, etc.

Your 450W PSU can probably handle a 4850, but if I were you I'd dig around to be sure. The new BFG 550W PSU has gotten excellent reviews, but I'm not sure about your older, smaller one.
Fortunately, it is easy to blow a 9500GT out of the water. A 4670 can do it, for $65-$70, but still may not be satisfactory if your resolution is 1680x1050. In that case, you'll want a 4850, probably with 1GB of RAM on it.
If you want to stay with nVidia, possibly due to Hybrid SLI, then a 9600GT is the minimum option, followed by a 9800GT or up to GTX260 at the high end if your PSU can handle it.
If you aren't sure about the PSU, you can get a 4830 or 9800GT for $90-$95, and an Antec Earthwatts 430 for $55 to meet your $150 budget.

i play at 1440 by 900 and i am not the biggest gamer but like anyone who has played crysis wants to make it play better
My main titles are call of duty waw and farcry 2

Wouldn't a 4850 be enough for that resolution? 4850's push 1280x1024 around like its nothing so that is my recommendation ;)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Now that asus is a pretty good card BUT!

I recommend this card as it has a DOUBLE life time warranty and it should support overclocking so you can overclock it to or past the ASUS's "top overclock" without voiding warranty!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

You also have the option of the 9800GTX+ or its better cousin the gts 250!

The 9800GTX+ and GTS 250 will offer the SAME performance as the 4850 as well

I recommend EVGA as you get the overclocking warranty and i believe you get the DOUBLE warranty here as well so you can sell the thing and the buyer gets his warranty to just like the XFX cards

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E...

An XFX card that will also come with COD5...you get the warranty and overclocking + a bitchin game

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

You can overclock that EVGA up as well and you still have your warranty etc

Ok, your problem is the 9500gt. It's not a gaming card, although it quite often gets sold as being one.

Either buy an HD 4670, 9600gt or HD4830, or wait 1 week and buy an HD 4770. All of those cards will blow the 9500gt away, with the later ones being slightly more expensive and better at every step.

The 450w was the one that pushed out the most amount of power it could with complete satbilty. I was recommended by a friend for this psu and it ran a 4870
April 24, 2009 1:48:49 AM

would that handle my games well or just barely be able to play on high
April 24, 2009 1:49:35 AM

If you want the cheapest and in my opinion best choice for price vs performance in your case it is this card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Im not sure how its warrantied but it is one hell of a deal

The 9800GTX+ the 250 GTS and the 4850 will play ALL of your games at high and eat em for breakfast take a dump and eat em again...its just that bad azz

Any of the cards are a great buy and they are all in the same class

The 250 GTS is just a rebranded 9800GTX+ but its a smaller die and it runs cooler etc so if you can its better to get that card over the 9800GTX....but they will perform the same

If you look at benchmarks at the resolution of 1280x1024 that is the EXACT performance you will see give or take 1 or 2 fps's as your resolution is the exact same...do the math

cant run a 9800gtx because it requires a 6pin and 6+2pin in which i only have a six pin
April 24, 2009 1:53:44 AM

Get a molex 4 pin to 6 pin :sarcastic:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Do your own research :(

I really hate trying to help people that won't search worth a damn

Make sure to study both of my posts in detail and take your time...

Your AMD processor will do just fine in ANY source games...TF2 CSS L4D Portal Gmod

It will do any COD game really well also but with your processor you won't be able to do games like GTA very well and no one gets good performance in Crysis so just forget about it isn't anything special anyway

Your processor is great for the source titles and any cod game that will come your way as well as Farcry2...but you will want to upgrade to a phenom soon enough...just keep playing till you can't

April 24, 2009 2:07:36 AM

i have done research i have the first person i asked told me a 9500gt would stand up i would rather ask people for real then look at peoples reviews

Wait on the 4770. Buying any other graphics card at the $100 mark is pure insanity with the 4770 released in under a weeks time.

The person who told you the 9500gt would stand up was probably the same person who sold you it.

The big difference here is, nobody is making money by telling you crap.

And buying the 9800gtx would hardly be insanity considering the 4770 will barely get up to the 9800gtx albeit they will most likely be matched...

Wait on the 4770 or get the 9800gtx

Don't ask for help when you are going to run your uneducated little mouth kiddy
April 24, 2009 3:49:51 AM

i know you arent trying to sell me something and the person who told me to get the 9500gt was a person from a different forum place you are NOT selling me something, ok
April 24, 2009 4:00:25 AM

your *** for help

Who is?

We have already told you wait for the 4770 or get the 9800GTX at 100$...atleast that is what i would do :sarcastic:

GTFO if your going to bitch and moan....and learn whats the best buy for yourself....oh wait....

No one here has to help you and if your going to whine like a ..... don't ask for help your request has already been met...

Honestly people, try and keep it civil. To Slayer, people are giving you good advice. You should probably be appreciative and listen. Nobody is selling you anything nor is obligated to help you. They are doing it to be helpful, out of the goodness of their hearts.

To Rewindlabs, asking for more help or clearification isn't a crime. To somebody relatively uniformed, there is a lot of crap on the internet and it can be confusing, especially to a 'beginner'.

Slayer, jump all over that recertified 9800GTX. It's more than good enough. If you're uncomfortable with that, wait for the 4770 and see how it shakes things down.

Excuse me?

He obviously thinks he knows more than we do when he runs his mouth saying "your *** for help" after 10 mins without a reply...for all i care he can troll off

That recertified 9800GTX is such a nice deal though....if only the 4770 wasn't coming
